FOCUS RUSSIA
The heart of animation is almost 100 years old, and Russian animation is as old as animation itself. Wladislaw Starewicz, one of the first, and greatest, animators, was Russian. By 1912 he was making amazing films with insect-dolls parodies of movies of that era.
Since than stories have been told.
This year Lago Film Fest dedicates a section to Russian animation and to its emerging directors. More than twenty shorts films where different techniques and styles are mixed togheter bounding through a common thread: the history of Russia itself. Historically isolated from the rest of the shining jet-set has not been contaminated by great animation production such as Disney and DreamWorks, preserving its soul untouched.
