As a pioneer in the field of animation, Poland leads this special section which presents a selection of its recent production, with works including those from Lodz Film School and the Polish Film Institute.
Introduced by a tribute to the filmmaker Zbigniew Rybczynski, Solidarność activist and winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1983, the selection consists of twelve beats of images, shapes, colours, sounds and stories. These short films convey bitterness and sensitivity, sadness and laughter, loneliness and humanity. Between dark tones and colours, between tradition and experimentation, the shifting images preserve the identities and build the present. Beyond the walls of reality and imagination.
