Suonomadre is a quartet composed of Massimo De Mattia (voted best Italian flutist in Jazzit’s readers poll for four consecutive years), vibraphone and percussions player Luigi Vitale, pianist-keyboardist Giorgio Pacorig and the “Slovenian shaman of percussions” Zlatko Kaučič. Now: creating a live score for a static image is surely more unusual than doing so for a video. At the very least, the image – or the series of images – must make up for its lack of rhythm with the richness and striking nature of its details: and don’t the images of Lago XIV do precisely that? Inspired by the five pictures shot by slowphoto.studio, Suonomadre will weave five jazz improvisations: they will be dense and organic, angular and yet liquid, the ensemble’s very trademark.
