Dear Kevin Bacon,

I have a dream. And it involves you. I know, it sounds crazy. It is. That’s just how I am – when I have an idea I share it, I bring my friends in, and it becomes a shared dream.

My name is Viviana and in 2005 I founded an independent film festival called Lago Film Fest, in a small medieval village between Cortina and Venice. A place suspended between the Alps and the plain, where the lake water reflects the sky and the hopes of a concrete present and a future still to be written.

I imagined the people of my village walking out of their homes, chair in hand, and making their way down to the lake shore to see something new, something that had never been seen here before: an open-air cinema under the stars. And it actually happened.

In twenty-two years, that village became home to many people and the European Capital of Independent Cinema. Because we know how to welcome, support and put people and talent at the centre of everything.

Now we have a new dream, and to make it happen we need you. That’s why I want to invite you here, to Italy, to Lago, for the next edition of the festival, in July.
We make independent cinema – small, hard to distribute and easy to love. Cinema that creates futures.
You are a star. We know. And we’ve asked ourselves more than once: why you? Lago Film Fest lives on connections. And that’s why I thought of you.

And we’ll say it to Kyra too: this place is incredible. The hills, the water of the lake, the stones of the medieval houses and the sky above it all – it will be a unique experience in one of the most beautiful places in Italy. For you, something unforgettable. For us, the occasion around which everything would come together: the local and international community, the filmmakers, the artists and the audience that for twenty-two years has followed this festival from every corner of the world – to write a future that today seems uncertain.
Give us a sign and we’ll take care of everything.
You know better than I do – the theory of six degrees of separation even bears your name: the world is connected. Every person, every story, every dream — everything is tied to everything else by an invisible thread. It’s the most beautiful and most mysterious thing that exists. If you came to Lago, you would bring that network with you. We are connected — six degrees at most — to the whole world. I already know what you’re thinking… And you’re probably right. But part of the meaning of what we do here is exactly this: believing, trying, trying again.

I’m not asking you to save us. I’m asking you to do something crazy with us.
We await your reply, with courage and a healthy dose of madness.

If you’re not Kevin Bacon: you can do something. Between you and him there are at most six degrees of separation — a friend, a colleague, a friend of a friend. Six steps. Six connections. Find them and get this letter to him. We don’t know where you’re starting from, but you’re already six degrees away from him.
