Valentina Manzoni is an Italian-Swiss filmmaker and visual artist, born in 1994. In 2017 she graduated in Video and Performance from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She takes her first steps as a filmmaker under the guidance of Abbas Kiarostami and Béla Tarr, while supporting with production roles the film collective Mass Ornament Films. In 2020 she returned to Milan, her hometown, after a residency at Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV, Cuba. With the support of the City of Milan, she co-founded Genealogies of the Future, a cultural association of artists and curators under 30 dedicated to the production and dissemination of artistic works in dialogue with practices of eco-sustainability. She is a contributor to the open archive “Labour in a single shot” founded by Harun Farocki and Antje Ehmann. She is currently working on her first photography book and, when not devoted to her own artistic research, coordinates the production of the Spring Academy workshop and the programming of the Concorso Cineasti del presente for the Locarno Film Festival. To date, she has directed three short films, which have been presented in independent festivals and internationally renowned festivals (Filmmaker Film Festival, Milan and Locarno Film Festival).
